Porphyry Copper Lifecycles -- A regional approach. (AZ-NM Sonoran Desert region)
description: Task involves studies of natural or human altered dispersion from porphyry Cu deposits in southwestern U.S. and northwestern Mexico, including (1) mapping, description, and genetic chemical modeling of ferricretes, manganocretes, and exotic copper deposits, as they relate to porphyry Cu sources (2) mapping of element dispersion in groundwater from porphyry Cu deposits, and (3) studies of rock/water interaction in the weathering of porphyry Cu deposits.

Black Mesa
description: Peabody Western Coal is using groundwater to slurry pump coal via pipeline to a power plant in Laughlin, Nevada. Geohydrology and USGS modeling of the aquifer underlying Black Mesa indicate that groundwater withdrawal greatly exceeds recharge. An expanded-scale study to develop a more representative model is being proposed.
